The Eutectic men's tennis team played its last match of the season on Friday, falling in the first round of the American Midwest Conference/Heart of America Athletic Conference championships tournament. The STLCOP team lost 5-0 to eventual tournament champions William Woods University.
The WWU Owls dominated doubles without dropping a single game to the Eutectics and headed into singles up 3-0.
In singles, the Owls' Patrick Shelepov and Jack Campbell continued the trend, defeating STLCOP's Clark Berry (JR/St. Charles, Mo.) and James Bamberger (FR/St. Charles, Mo.), 6-0, 6-0 at courts 3 and 6. The singles victories were the fourth and fifth court wins in the match, clinching the victory for the Owls without finishing the other singles courts.
The Owls did not lose a single game in their quest for the tournament championship and national qualification, going on to defeat Missouri Baptist University in the semis and Missouri Valley University in the finals.
For the Eutectics, the loss ended the STLCOP season, and the collegiate tennis careers for seniors Sheldon Kolawole (SR/St. Louis, Mo.), Naphtali Eke (SR/St. Louis, Mo.), and George Win (SR/Springfield, Mo.). The team finished the season with an overall record of 4-12, going 0-5 in the AMC.
The team's number-one player, Rahul Jilakara (JR/Glen Allen, Va.), finished the season with four STLCOP records, including Career Singles Wins, Career Combined (Singles & Doubles) Wins, Single Season Doubles Wins, and Single Season Combined Wins.
