The Eutectic men's tennis team traveled to Henderson, Tenn., to take on Freed-Hardeman University for its first outdoor match of the season on Friday, falling 4-0 to the Lions.
The STLCOP team was traveling short-handed, forcing forfeits at Court 3 doubles and Court 6 singles.
The Lions' top two doubles teams were strong, allowing only one game in all from both Eutectic pairs. This year's new outdoor scoring rule allows only one point for doubles, going to the team who claims at least two out of three of the courts. Heading into singles, the Lions were already up 2-0 (due to the Court 6 forfeit), and needed to win only two courts to take the match.
Cade Pressnell and Aleksa Pesic got the job done for Freed-Hardeman, winning in 12 games each over STLCOP's Clark Berry (JR/St. Charles, Mo.) and Anirudh Kalathil (FR/Chesterfield, Mo.) on singles Courts 1 and 2. Those courts were enough to win the match for FHU before the other courts finished.
The Eutectics, now will next compete on Saturday, March 14, in Midway, Ky., against the Midway University Eagles.
