The Eutectic men's tennis team, led by new head coach David LaFevers, opened its season on Saturday, with a tri-match at Principia College in Elsah, Ill.
The Eutectics face Millikin University to start off the day, falling 9-0 to the Big Blue. The newly formed Court-1 doubles team of Rahul Jilakara (JR/Glen Allen, Va.) and Anirudh Kalathil (FR/Chesterfield, Mo.) took three games off opponents Jacob Palley and Logan Bennet, but were unable to sustain for the win, falling 8-3. In singles, Clark Berry (JR/St. Charles, Mo.) claimed four games against Adrien Sanchez-Rodriguez on Court 4, while Jilakara took three from Court 1 opponent Palley. But, the Big Blue lineup proved too much for the Eutectics' first time out.
Later, the STLCOP team faced the hosts, the Principia College Panthers, falling 9-0. Double courts one and two were shutout by the Panthers, while Clark Berry and Mensur Koso (SR/St. Charles, Mo.) were able to snag two games off opponents Elliott Matthiesen and William Johnson at Court 3, succumbing to the duo in the end. In singles, Kalathil claimed the most games off of William Johnson at Court 5 with three.
While the results of the tri-match were not what they had hoped, the Eutectics will soon get another chance at victory when they host Hendrix College on Friday, Feb. 21, at the St. Clair Indoor Tennis Center in O'Fallon, Ill., at 7 p.m.
